Rabindra Roy earned his PhD degree in Natural Resources Management (NRM) from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand in 2010. He graduated in two disciplines, viz. Forestry and Business Administration, and did his post-graduate in Environment Management.

Dr. Roy has, professionally, been working for nearly three decades in the theme of NRM, forestry, livelihoods, fair trade and social inclusion through research, development and informed-advocacy. In his earlier career, he served at the Ministry of Forests and Soil Conservation/Government of Nepal about fifteen years as a forest technician. In addition, he was also associated with national NGOs, federation, civil societies and, private sectors. In this respect, he worked with difference funding agencies in the various professional capacities while executing different projects. During his professional and academic career, Dr. Roy has also gained hands-on knowledge and experience on the issues of mountain livelihoods especially in Karnaali region of Nepal.

Dr. Roy has been serving as one of the editorial board members for the Journal of Sustainable Development, Canada, and numerous papers have been published both in national and international journals.

Dr. Roy’s professional interests are to carrying out research in the theme of natural resources management, climate change mitigation and adaptation especially REDD+, sustainable management of forests, inclusive development and livelihoods. He believes that any development initiatives should be aligned with research outputs (R&D) for needy people. In this connection, critical role of media shall be acknowledged to disseminating scientific knowledge to the needy people for establishing harmonic linkage between scientific knowledge and people’s aspiration to create the better livelihoods options for them both in home and in globe.

At present, Dr. Roy is associated with symbiosis associates (SYMASS) as an Executive Chairperson. Photography and traveling in the mountainous areas are some of his hobbies.
