Disaster Reporting Resources Website for the Media Launched

In response to the informational needs of journalists in the wake of the devastating M7.6 earthquake of 25 April 2015, Media Foundation has launched the online portal, Disaster Reporting Resources for the Media.

The website (http://drnepal.org) will feature useful resources for journalists and also curate online materials related with response to the earthquake and its aftermath in an effort to document the lessons learned.

In addition, it will also carry some original stories from the ground, and interviews with relevant sources. The website also features a section with testimonials (oral histories) on the 2015 Earthquake.

The primary focus of work is on journalists and media professionals, often the first responders, who are covering this massive natural disaster and humanitarian emergency as well as media workers who have themselves been affected by this tragedy in the 35 districts in central Nepal.

The objective is to help reporters and media professionals help themselves in covering this calamity and the recovery process.

MF believes that the website will also be useful to the public, private and voluntary sectors involved in the recovery works as well as the general media consumers.

A group of volunteers (journalists and resource persons in disaster management, development, and emergency medicine) have joined this humanitarian cause, under the coordination of Media Foundation. MF believes that at the least, the website will help save much time from research and planning in covering the disaster, a story that will be with us for many years to come.

The website will document lessons learned in media response to the tragedy and share resources with the resolve of building a safe and stronger Nepal.

If you like to be a part of this cause, or like to volunteer, we need urgent help in information gathering, research, writing/editing, counselling, fundraising, webworks, etc.

Donations will not be used for administrative or consultation costs. Our volunteers are giving their time freely for these activities.
